Cooking with Culture: Around the World in Ten Mouthwatering Meals!
Year: 2011
Country: El Salvador
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $485.14
Project Launch:
The community of Cuisnahuat, El Salvador is about an hour’s bus ride to the main highway that links the region with San Salvador. The population of Centro Urbano is officially categorized as being in extreme poverty and illiteracy rates are high. The lack of employment opportunities leads families to breakup, alcoholism, drug abuse and teen pregnancy. A $485 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program, turned an after-school activity into an unlikely cooking school. The project helped to teach 11 to 19 year olds about cooking, health, the need for diet diversity and provided a safe and enriching after-school activity.Explore other Projects
