Digital Skills for Underserved Nigerian Youths
Project Launch: 1-4-22
Digital Skills for Underserved Nigerian Youths is taking place in Lagos, Nigeria and focusing on youth from 5 communities; Surulere, Ikeja, Amuwo-Odofin, Mushin, and Oshodi. Nigeria has a youth population of more than 8 million. Many youths are unskilled and surviving on less than $2 per day, which creates an increase in violence, insecurity, and unrest amongst young people in Nigeria. Despite being one of the largest youth populations in Nigeria, youth in Lagos lack the skills training programs and systems to provide up-to-date technical skills and employment opportunities to its ever-growing employable population. Digital Skills for Underserved Nigerian Youth project will contribute towards the reduction of unemployment, among Nigerian youth and women, through the development of digital skills and the creation of employment opportunities in the tech sector. The project will train 45 women over a 7-month period. There will be 3 days of intensive training classes per week. The trainings will cover workshop sessions on writing resumes and interview preparation. In addition, the project will be divided into 3 parts; the first part will be training classes on either Web Design or UI/UX Design. The second part will match target beneficiaries with local companies for internship placements and job opportunities. The third part will connect target beneficiaries to mentors. The mentors will be members of the Women ICTpreneurs Nigeria Alumni Network and respected tech professionals.
