Enabling Environmental clubs in sustainable agroforestry in Nyanza sector /Gisagara District
Project Launch: 12-31-22
Funding for this project will train 350 smallholder farmers organised in 15 environmental clubs in Nyanza Sector of Gisagara district in the southern province of Rwanda to establish tree nursery beds planted with agro-forestry tree seeds which can be used for timber, fodder and fruits. Upon germination, these tree seedlings will be transplanted to farmers' gardens to protect the environment and also be asource of fruits for families and livestock feeds. 41,500 trees are expected to be obtained from these nursery beds established by the project and planted in the community. A mass tree planting day will be organised in line with Rwanda's monthly self-help community service day locally known as Umuganda where all adult community members will come together to plant tress obtained from these nursery beds so as to protect the environment.
