Sabanillas de Acosta is a rural community with fewer than 400 people located deep in the mountains of the central farming valley of Costa Rica. Many of the women are unemployed and many families struggle to get by financially. One of the most important aspects of the culture is religion, another is the national, shared culture. In 2011, World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program awarded a grant to start a music and dance group for a half dozen or so students in the small community that acquainted youngsters with their heritage and gave them the opportunity to express themselves culturally. They performed for their peers and their community and they also traveled outside the region to perform for others.Explore other Projects
