Garbage & Recycle Bins
Project Launch:
San Francisco de Peñas Blancas, a community with over 300 people, has no public trash receptacles or public areas to deposit refuse. Bottles, food wrappers, and other trash clog the local river, threaten wildlife, and potentially expose residents to pathogens. The trash also piles up in abandoned lots and in between homes and other areas creating an eyesore and health risk. This project calls for the installation of four bins: One for non-recyclable waste and three for recyclables (aluminum, plastic, paper). This will ensure the village remains clean and safe for everyone and that local wildlife will remain undisturbed.
Project Update:
The community now has a garbage bin structure for events and littering has sharply declined. Furthermore, people are now incentivized to recycle because they have a free, convenient place to place their recyclable refuse.
